    Question about Dukes Coon Traps

I was reading the Game Warden Field notes thread. It said something about Artifical light being illegal. Got me curious about the legality of using Artificial light to shoot Racoons.
In my research I found out that Raccoons are classified as a fur bearing animal and it IS legal to use an artificial light. [emoji1303]

I read it is legal to use a leg hold trap. But further down in the exceptions it says.

I'm reading that as during the commercial season I can't use a leg hold trap.
I want to put a couple of traps out. out

Are you harvesting for commercial sale of the hides? If so I would just follow that rule. If not for commercial sale of the hide then does not matter is my interpretation.

I think you had it backwards, I read it as saying you can only use the foothold/body trap during the commercial season. Being said, I've never heard of anyone getting tagged for it.

I don't sell the hides or pelts.

I like to shoot the Raccoons that come to the feeder when the pigs won't.

That was the other possibility I saw too.

Probably have to reach out to a GW for clarity, but I'd bet if you found three wardens that had seen the applicable page you posted you would get three different interpretations.

I would get clarity from the GW that is in your area.

When I looked at this I got everything from

                1. it is illegal and I will ticket you for it if you do it (TPWD regional office)

                to

                2. It is just a nuisance coon, why are we even having this conversation (good friend that is a GW)

                to

                3. Is he tearing up your feeders and being a nuisance? You got game camera pics of it? Then you are good to go. (My county GW)

I think it's pretty cut and dried. Now whether they would charge anyone for that, I wouldn't guess.

You are not trapping for furbearing....you are trapping for nuisance. There is no nuisance season. Trap away

If you were trapping for furbearing, of course it is illegal to trap furbearing animals outside of furbearing season.

When in doubt, kill all raccoons by any means necessary!

The pigs cannot shoot the raccoons. They don't have a trigger finger.
