    Hydrilla

do you want Hydrilla in your ponds? whats the positives and negatives?

I would love to have hydrilla in my tanks. Great fishing, clear water. But the bad far outweighs the good on small bodies of water. I have a big enough battle controlling cattails and coon tail moss in my waters.

Agree with the above. I love Hydrilla in lakes. Nature and TPWD do a good enough job to keep it from taking over. In a pond I think it could get out of hand pretty easily.

We had some get into our small ponds, and its been a never ending battle trying to keep it under control. We have dredged it, poisoned it, ponds even dried up in the drought. That stuff will take over the world. I don't recommend adding it.

Will grass carp eat hydrilla and water milfoil? As has been stated above it will take over a small lake, but it is good for the fish in small amounts.

I had it in a 14 acre pond at work. Great for bait fish, great for fishing, at first. Then it got out of hand. Had to constantly treat with copper sulfate to even have holes to throw lures. We threw some grass carp in and now they knocked it out. Brush piles for cover

Whatever we were permitted. I believe it was 10/acre, it’s been a few years. They wiped it out.

That’s what I should have done. But I was ****** from all the upkeep haha. I’d try a third of what they call for. Because there is no vegetation left besides Lilly pads. Which are now becoming a huge pain in the *** in their own right

I'd start with 1/2 of what they recommend or maybe even a little less. Probably 5 at most. They are grass eating machines!

Yeah they are! I remember when they put them in Caney lake to knock down the grass. Went from the best bass lake in Louisiana to a bath tub in a couple years. Only fun part was cranking a riding mower and mowing the bank and shooting em with a bow! They would school on the bank if you would mow throwing the clippings in the lake.
