    2005 chevy silverado water pump

I am going to replace the water pump on my boys 2005 chevy 1500 Silverado. Looking at them online they have them with 1.87" thermostat opening and 2.05" thermostat opening. Which is the correct one? I was planning on replacing the thermostat and thermostat housing at the same time. Why are there two different sizes?

That's probably the temperature range it opens at. Not inches. 187 degrees.

      they are degrees,
summer range is the 187 deg, and the other is for a colder climate, I think. could be backwards

Thermostat is not on the water pump. At least I've never seen one that was. I also agree that those numbers sound like temps.

call an AC Delco or Chevy dealer & they’ll run your VIN and tell you exactly what you need.

They are on the water pumps on the v8 gm trucks.

I'll be durn. Never seen that, but I drive an old '93. And those numbers are for the thermostat opening size.

                They are actually reverse flow.

                  Do this^^^

I changed my water pump on my 06 Silverado a few months ago, and they sold the one I needed. No guessing.

just did mine on an 04. those are the size in inches of the Tstat. It is not a difficult job. many of the new pumps come with the tstat housing so you just buy the tstat to fit the new one.

Does it matter which one I use?

from a flow perspective...no. but it must fit the correct outlet housing so it will seal correctly.
