Question: walking with arms behind back

I've noticed over the years a lot of guys and especially older gentleman walk with their arms behind their back. Why do some folks do this? I like hands free and arms moving while i walk or meander.

Gives a little extra strength to stabilize your back, my grandfather walked like that When he got older

I think it has everything to do with body a language like crossing arms, looking up or down when thinking, etc.

Makes me throw my chest out so I can breath better, stretches my shoulder muscles, and supports my back. But it restricts me from using a walker, cane, or crutches. Plus I can't see the ground in front of me. So I have a tendency to stumble more.

                      Why-ya wanna know?

You can cross them easier behind your back. Ya look like a dummy with them folded sittin on your big ole belly!
Also it gives you that distinguished scholarly thinkers look!

I'm old and I don't walk like that. I need my arms in front so I can break the fall quicker.....

just notice an older guy at my apt courtyard walking after two little dogs and he was following them along and had his arms behind his back.. but I've noticed over the years other guys doing this, usually folks from what i assume, asian and India cultures mostly and usually walking with pets or other family.. sometimes alone.. just an observation question i guess
