Trey has been after those "Kurkeys" again! Video

You would have to remember or see the first video I put together on here of me and Trey hunting when he was three. Trey thought he sealed the deal on a turkey and was wanting to eat his "kurkey" and go get it, etc.....my heart sank knowing there was no bird to go get.

    Treys "Kurkey"

Fast forward to the last hunt we put in for the year this year. Trey and I were on a mission to get his first deer. After him spooking off a tiny 6pt that might as well have been a monster to him, he spooked off some yearlings from his excitement and laughing/shaking so bad. I acted like a butt about it a little bit and had to apologize and just let him have a good time. He ended up getting a shot at a turkey!

Treys first real shot at a turkey

Video is rough and not edited but sad and cute none the less. Hard to believe Trey turned 8 this last week! 3 shots(one is behind hand tighter on shoulder) in a cardboard deer ended up being his first deer

Howard enjoy them moments with your boy. They grow up way too fast man. I remember my boys first hunt and deer. He was excited. but not as much as I was for him. He is now 17 and doing his own things. We dont get to spend much time in the woods together anymore. I wish we could but, just dont seem to happen.

Loved the story and the video's thanks for sharing.

almost any weekend in Mason I could have promised him a shot at a deer at least. The one weekend we went, worse deer activity ever. He hunted 3 hrs that morning and 2.5 that evening. Long time for a 7 yr old to sit in the stand. Next morning was freezing and windy- he was ready to go before I was.

He shook it off pretty well and on the way home said losing or missing his bird was not as bad as it first felt. He also told me he would have given his $75 walmart card he had won to someone if they could show him his bird while we were looking. My heart sank

Memories were made that will last a lifetime and he asked me to wrap him up and warm him. I put him inside my jacket with me while he sat in front of me on a bucket. One day he will push a way instead of wanting to get closer, better enjoy it while I can!

Trey's growing up for sure. He will come to understand that this is all a learning process. I still remember missing the first deer I ever shot at like it was yesterday and that was 45 years ago!

That will make the first kill, be it turkey or deer, all the more sweeter. I wish I knew how many deer I missed before I got my first one. I do know it was a lot. But when I layed my hands on my first one, you would have thought I won the lottery! Hang in there buddy!

Awesome memory! I bet he shares that with his boy when he is a father.

There was a time when I would have rather gone with friends and done my own thing instead of with my dad. I am 31 now and he is my best friend and hunting buddy. I love hunting with him, and now i really regret the times I chose friends instead of him and my grandfather. You don't realize how important time is with family until some of the family is not there to spend time with any more. So I guess the kids grow olader and push away and the fathers just wait and hope they come back. That video was great!!

My boy is 8 also and it's just a matter of time before he starts to push away. I have gotten my night time cuddles from him since he was a baby and still do. It's gonna abe an awful sad day when he doesn't want them anymore. He won't understand his old man needs them. Great video Howard. It's just a matter of time before he knocks his first deer down. I'll keep an eye on y'all to see if y'all have a place to hunt next season. If I get a few more LAMP permits next year, I got one with y'alls name on it.
