RH competition shooters using LH rifles?

The other day I was at a gun shop looking for a LH bolt action rifle. The owner explained to me how RH competition/ bench shooters were using LH bolt action rifles now. RH shooters can keep their eye on the target (or something) better using a LH bolt when using a bipod? It made since at the time but now.......
He even had a RH bolt action rifle set up on a LH stock for LH competition shooters?
Was he yanking my chain? Do I need to get out more?

      Why?

How can a RH shooter keep their eye on the target with the bolt on the left side??? I can’t see the reasoning. Help me.

Also you will see RH shooters with right bolt/left port single shot bolt guns so they can start the round in the chamber by hand. Different people use different stuff and it depends on the games you want to play as to how you configure your rifle. I think a lot of the opposite bolt stuff started in PALMA but I aint swearing by it

The gun store owner was explaining this to me also. He was into completion shooting big time. After awhile all I was hearing was blah, blah, blah plus my head was hurting from information overload.

I think for anything other than some types of target shooting left for left and right for right is the way to go. That said I am a lefty and have only had one left handed bolt gun just cause I can make a righty work, and lefties are hard to find used, and I get tired of looking. Sounds like you have run into that too haha

I have a LH Savage .270 for sale. Great gun, just want something a little different. Also, coacheddy always seems to have used LH rifles for sale, and is a good dude to deal with.

I grew up shooting RH, even though I am a south paw. It's really not that hard to make it work. Just make the first shot count!

Sounds like the all the RH bass fisherman, switching to left hand retrieve. I can't do it.
I do chalk a cue with my left hand though.

Righted handed gun, left eyed shooter my left hand (trigger hand) holds the gun while I work the bolt wire my right. Or load.
Gun remains in position on bag and trigger hand never leaves grip.

I’m pretty sure Cajun Blake uses right bolt left port guns and will chime in shortly.

Same here. Been doing since waaaaaaay before it was cool! Mostly bc my Guns were hand me downs and it’s now worth looking for a lefty. Works great til a hot casing hits your cheek from a semi auto or a super aggressively working the bolt

Was this gun shop called Academy?

Rt hand / left Port makes sense. Shooting weak side / weak eye does not to me

It’s not shooting weak eye. They are shooting a LH gun right handed so that the trigger hand never leaves its hold and the gun does not move off target

That is correct. You maintain a consistent cheek weld, saving time when you are on the clock. When I shot a PRS (Precision Rifle Series) match a few weeks back, there was one stage where I could have used that set up. It was a funky position (especially for a larger individual like myself) in between kneeling and sitting. I spent more time readjusting the rear support bag back up under my right arm than I did in the scope on target. I only got 5 out of 8 shots off in the allotted 2 minute time. Had I been only moving the left hand, there would have been no problem getting the shots off.
