    Extreme Makeover: Mobile Home Edition

This started out as a project where I’d move in and fix the place up and rent it out, but now I’m really liking the fact that I have no neighbors, received a fine Catahoula pup that someone dropped off a few months ago and a few outdoor kitties for snakes and mice. Plus…the major plus is that I have a back yard that is way more than 50 yards long…plenty of target practice!!

Last week, I was able to get the skirting on, got the place leveled and what a difference it made. It dressed it up a lot. I also got all of the trash hauled off from the last renter who left his broken down hot tub in the back yard and other sundry items. I also got an estimate on a 10x12 uncovered deck with one set of stairs for the front. He quoted me $1900…not sure but think I might get two other quotes.

Moving right along to the interior of the home and this is where I was hoping to get some advice from fellow TBHers: Painting the inside walls. This is a tough one. The walls are those paneled walls and a couple of people have told me that you can just apply primer first and then paint, and that the wallpapered-panel won’t show through. Has anyone done this? I have looked online for mobile home painting, but not a lot of information is out there. Has anyone done this? Any recommendations, feedback, suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Souds like ya found a pot of gold!
Seal the paneling, you can use the water based kills, or ask the guy at the home Depot, he can stear you in the right direction!
have fun and do it YOUR way....
shot out the back door...hummmmmmmm that could work!

I owned several manufactured home dealerships for ten years, and if the walls are clean you can pull the battens if it is vinal coverd sheetrock and tape and float the joints and primer it and paint just like any wall. If it is paneling just put on a few coats or use a high quality single coat paint. You have already leveld it so you sound ready to go on the walls and if the floors squeek there are lag bolts under the home that can be tightend and it will do away with that. Sometimes the leveling causes squeeking in the floors. If you have any other questions just send me a pm and I will be glad to help, I have owned hundreds of these over the years, and encountred most problems.
