The surf can be down right tricky. I use swellinfo and keep a close eye on surf cams throughout the day leading up to the day I plan on going. When I wake up to go, I check the NWS for Galveston to get real time info to see if the wind is blowing down there. Most of the time I hit it right but there have been times when the wind picked up big time on the way down for a morning wade and the surf was completely blown out. That's a long haul from Conroe to be greeted with a trashed out surf as soon as you hit the seawall. lol

Haha close to home is a relative term. The marina in Freeport may be close but I’m sure he was no less than 80 miles from shore. Nonetheless, beautiful fish. That AJ is a toad
