    Protein shake for kids

    I know, I know..

    Let him be a kid. Get plenty of milk, sunshine, and let him grown at his own pace.

    Well, his heart, mind, and attitude are outgrowing his body. My son just turned 8 and loves sports. He's played 2 years of baseball, 1 of basketball, 1 of football. When one sport ends, that stuff goes into the closet and out comes the next sport stuff. Dude is a lean, mean, athletic machine.. just too lean. He was born almost a month early and has really suffered in the weight department. My 5 year old girl weighs the same as him. If he could put on some weight this summer, he would dominate 3rd grade football.

    I seen they make some kids protein shakes, but was seeing if anyone has any first hand experience with them. I figure one upon waking and one before bed for a few months should put some weight on him. Whatcha think?

    I don't see a protein shake doing anything for him. Metabolism is probably off the charts. Maybe a weight gainer shake, 1500 calories each, twice a day.

      a high calorie shake is moreso what I was referring to. his metabolism is crazy..

        I wouldn't do it . Eight years old let him grow naturally who cares about dominating a sport .

            We could tell you it's a stupid idea for free but you should probably pay a Pediatrician a couple hundred bucks to tell you that

            All kidding aside, your kid is not a biology experiment. Consult a physician before attempting anything to alter his growth.

              I was same way as a kid. My parents made me a milkshake with a scoop of protein powder in it every night. Worked great. I will definitely do it when I have kids. Boys and girls. I truly believe it is good for muscle development. I have always had an athletic build since a young age.

              I believe it is natural, btw. It is just easier to consume than slamming a bunch of chicken every day. It isn’t like you are putting him on PEDs.

                A protein shake after a meal might add weight. If given during the day or before a meal, he won't be hungry as they're also used as meal replacers. I'd definitely check with his doctor.

                  A buddy of mine put his kid on some when he was young and now he is is a 220 pound first team all district fullback at a 5A school. It worked as his dad is not a big man.

                    We've all become biology expierments . Feeding your kid extra food, and you need to consult a physician? Amazing any of us survived before doctors were on every corner, and Web MD.

                      He didn't say he wanted to feed his his kid extra food. He asked about protein shakes twice a day later clarified as "weight gain shakes". Excess protein can impact kidney function/size, increas plasma amino acids which may have behavioral side effects and increase insulin production. Protein powders, depending on their source may cause gastrointestinal issues as well. So, yeah I would recommend he talk to a doctor before experimenting with a few thousand extra calories and protein powder intake for an 8 year old.

                              I bet that protein shake is 1,000 better then what a lot of people do. By letting kids drink cokes and eat junk al day and live on the computer, iPhone, or game consoles.

                              Just my 2 cents.....disclaimer I don't have kids
