    What is customer service worth?

Ok folks, I recently graduated college and bought a car for work. I have it insured with Farm Bureau right now, and the customer service is great. I can text my agent, get stuff taken care of, etc. But, it's pretty expensive. I've been looking at progressive, and I can get better liability coverage, roadside assistance, and better rental car assistance if I'm in an accident. Plus, I would save 150 a year. That's not including if I were in a situation where I needed roadside assistance. Every one of those is 100 dollars through current insurance, or whatever it would cost me out of pocket.
So, is saving potentially 250 a year worth taking a possible hit in customer service?

After the tornado hit our neighborhood I was glad I had a top rated insurance company. I don't know anything about Farm Bureau but I was glad I had not chased low rate homeowners insurance after the nightmare some of my neighbors dealt with. I had a check in 3 days for a new roof and damages.

All depends on if you need CS. Most of time you don't need it, but when you do it is nice. With insurance companies it all comes down to the adjuster when you have a problem, and you just dont know till then. I had Progressive and had a claim and was surprisingly pleased at how well it went. BUT it is adjuster dependent, and that is luck of the drawl.

If it means anything, I've had 2 cars flood with Progressive and they have been AWESOME both times. They've been quick to return my calls, but great about keeping me informed as the process goes on as well. All the people I've come in contact with at Progressive (which has been a lot obviously with 2 flooded cars) have been super friendly and attentive!

I think just like with most businesses, it all depends on that particular person you get to deal with.

Everybody is different, and you may catch them on a good / bad day.

Know your coverage, and go with what you feel most comfortable with according to the policies that are presented.

$250 a year? No. Not at all IMO. I’ve been with FB all driving life, which is 14 years so far until about 3 months ago. I purchased my house 2 years ago. They were RAPING me. I saved $1300 a year on my house, and $350 a year on vehicles by switching to AAA. I knew they were considerably higher than others, but I had been happy with their service. Not $1700 a year happy though.
