    Kawasaki motor vs. Kohler

A friend of mine bought a ztr over the weekend and the Service tech told him that now days there is no difference between Kawasaki and Kohler motors. The majority of their inventory has Kohler motors on them on their website. Maybe that is why he was was pushing the Kohler motor. I plan on going with a Kawasaki motor on my next mower. It seems that is what most mowers have on them that you see on Landscape/Mower trailers. They should know best.

There are different grades of Kawasaki motors. THe ones you see on commercial mowers(FX, FS, & FD series) are much different than the motors on entry level mowers (FR series).

I don't think you are getting a much better motor in the FR series, but a good motor when compaired to other motors in its class.

Theres a ton of Kohler powered equipment out there including welders and compressors. I wouldnt be afraid.of a Kohler powered mower.

You're smart. Go with the Kawasaki.

Kohler is good engine. It will probably outlast the mower. So is Kawasaki. Flip a coin.

Exactly. We run Miller Bobcats with Kohlers in them, and get over 4000hrs out of them.

Not enough of a difference to pay the extra money is what I was told by a couple shops. No less issues with them than Kohler or the Briggs on the new stuff. This was looking at $4000-$6000 machines.

My zero turn has a Kohler on it with the smart choke technology. No issues once so ever and has PLENTY of power. I went to three different gravely dealers a couple of years ago and they all pointed me towards the Kohler. I was willing to hand them over more money for the KAW, but I took their advice.

Kohler and Kawasaki are pretty close. Kawsaki got the nod for a long time.

The Briggs engines are not as good.

Have the kohler on my 1050 Cub Cadet, been mowing 3 acres for over 7 years on rough ground. No issues.

I was talked out of spending more on the Kawasaki and talked into the new Briggs. It’s a commercial motor though. Was told on lower end stay away from them though

I say kawasaki and I say that because I currently have one and have had in the past both kohler and briggs engines. Even if I had to spend more... buy the kawasaki!
