    Any coin or math experts?

I’m trying to determine an estimate on the amount of quarters currently in circulation. Any help out there?

The math part will come after we can determine that.

For all those people who find it more convenient to bother you with their question rather than to Google it for themselves.

That is for the year 2009 only I thought. Am I reading it wrong?

I’m attempting to determine the odds of possessing 1- 1987 quarter AND 1- 1976 quarter, give them away, and receive 2 of the same years back with my change the next purchase I make in another part of town.

            Known:

            1,238,094,177 - minted in 1987
            1,669,902,855 - minted in 1976

Well if you pay for a dollar candy bar with a 100 dollar bill and insist all change be given back in quarters your odds are pretty good. If you pay for a 89 cent candy bar with a dollar they are pretty slim

Use Enron math - make it up.

Let’s star with an easier calculation assuming knowns. Let’s focus on just that register.

Let’s say there were 30 quarters in the till. One of them was a 1987 and one was a 1976. What are the odds I receive them both. I only received 2 quarters

                    If I remember correctly
1st quarter would be 1 in 30, 2nd is 1 in 29 odds. Multiply? I think that's right been a long time since I've had a math class. At least that's how I came up with it but that seems really high. I wouldn't trust my answer

1 in 69,600 as change. Assuming all those are in circulation still. I don't think you could figure odds on you paying without knowing how many quarters you have in your possession. But I'm making all this up.

What do the years matter? They’re worth $.25 either way.
