    Hammock nap

I tried hammock camping 2 years ago and decided it was not for me. Those in the know said I needed a longer one.

Recently a buddy brought up the idea of hammock camping for Sept Colorado Elk hunting. I jumped in and bought a custom 11’ double layer from Simply Light Designs and tried it for the first time this afternoon. Napped HARD for an hour til my phone was buzzing and woke me up a little cold. Can’t wait to try it for a night with my underquilt!

Sounds awesome. What brand under quilt did you get? In for the results of using the quilt.

Made my own using the Costco double black diamond down throw. Lots of youtube videos on how-to. My sewing skills are poor but it came out ok. Actually did a top quilt too and that came out really nice.

Sams had the equivalent Eddie Bauer down throws on clearance for $9 the other day so I grabbed a couple more. Gonna try to improve the cosmetics on my second run.

My hammock has a slit opening between the layers though and my plan is to try out an insulated inflatable pad. With that in my pack I'd still have the option of sleeping on the ground in a pinch. My tarp can be set up as a floorless shelter with trekking poles.

Cool! And thanks for the info. I am planning a similar trip and have the tarp and hammock but have not done/prepped anything for insulation. Pics of your handy work would be appreciated

I sense a back story to this.

Well since I’m the buddy that talked you into this did I tell you my tarptent showed up and is super small and light [emoji51]. Still need to test my underquilt out as well. Did you put up the tarp yesterday?
