    Ice makers

Looking for some green screen knowledge. I’m going to be getting a small commercial ice maker for my shop on my barndo that we are building. I promised the wife I would get one that makes “Sonic” ice. Anyone know where I should start looking or what I should watch out for? Only ice maker I have ever owned was in a refrigerator so kind of walking blind here.

    Thanks.

I just started looking/researching yesterday for the exact same thing. Hopefully somebody will be able to help us out. Good luck.

Not much help but, those machine's typically run more than a standard flake machine and you will have a hard time if looking for a used one. Also make sure you have somewhere for the drain line, as they drain quite a bit of water in the summer time.

we looked at putting commercial ice machine in our wedding venue but after lots of reading on them we went with a chest freezer and ice from Buccee's.....100 pounds of ice is $5.....granted it's not the "sonic" ice

Maintenance and break downs of machines, if we were gonna go that route we were gonna lease rather than buy. They say its not if the machine will fail but when......

I went through the same research when i built my barndo. Everyone who had one told me they were broke all the time and the upfront cost was sky high.

I bought a big chest freezer for $150 and filled it full of ice.

Unless you need to have ice on hand for a lot of people all the time, I would go with an Opal nugget ice maker. Look it up on Amazon. Seems to be reliable so far. We have a under counter ice maker and it has to be fixed at least once a year. I have asked two different techs which brand makes the most reliable one and they both said "No one"

We have an Ice-o-matic undercounter ice maker that makes the nugget ice. Not commercial sized but makes approximately 25 pounds of ice per day. Works great and was the best deal I could find compared to other brands. We keep 8 pound bags loaded in the freezer for filling coolers.

Ice machines require maintenance. ISI is in Coppell, and they are the distributor for Scotsman. Hoshizaki makes good machines, they have an office near the southeast quadrant of 360 and 183 south of dfw airport. Both phone numbers are readily available, and they have them ready to pick up. The nugget machines are the same as the flakers, but they have a plate with holes that crush the flakes into nuggets.
