    Computer/Video Gurus

I'm sure most of yall have seen this at some point or another. But lets say you're looking for an online tutorial for some computer program (ie ArcGIS or Photoshop). When you find the tutorial, many times what you see is a persons monitor and every step they did along the way. Like they hit a record button on their computer and it recorded everything on their monitor as they went through the steps.....

How would one go about doing this. Is there something that needs to be downloaded to record, or is there a feature already on most computers that allows you to do this?

There are a ton of different capture tools on the market for this. Some are flash and some will create avi's etc....

google "computer screen recorder" and you'll get the idea.

A good one to start with is Adobe Captivate http://tryit.adobe.com/us/captivate/?sdid=DYEYJ

        I use Camtasia at work.

A less expensive alternative can be found here.

Yeah, but I'm looking to record into video format. And over an extended period of time... Some of which I may not be at the computer.

Freeware Thats what I'm talkin about.... For what I'm doing I don't need quality. Just something that works.
