Made a quick stand after work today before it got dark. 9 minutes in I called in a little female. She stopped on the ridge 50 yards to my left and she was looking right at me. I didn't move but she knew something was up and headed back up the ridge to circle around and catch my wind. As soon I saw her walk over the hill I stood up and ran over the hill. She stopped at 100 yards and I made an offhand shot. 55 grain softpoint to the shoulder,no exit. She stood up after I shot her and ran about 40 yards before piling up.
Closed out the year right. Only one I called in before the front hit and winds picked up by 20 and the temps dropped 20.
Youngster came in behind me, bugged out when he didn’t like the looks of the call. His mistake was he exited across a dry playa lakebed with little coverage. Turned to look back a few yards before he would have disappeared into cover.
I’d say I have the new barrel dialed in. 175 yd shot
What are yalls go to caliber and ammo for putting yotes down
Mostly a .223 using 55 grain Nosler E-Tip which is a bullet I just started using this season. It's a good bullet but I really like the Hornady 52gr BTHP or 55gr Sierra Blitzking and 55 grain Softpoint too. I've shot them with 40,45,50,52,53 and 55 grain bullets of different types and those 4 seem to kill them the best. My brother shoots a Sierra 60 grain Varminter HP and it's an awesome bullet as well.
For close up work I use a 12 gauge and 3" Varmint X BB or Federal #4 buck.
For further shots I like the 22-250. I've been shooting 55 grain Softpoints but I like 52 grain BTHP's or Sierra 55 grain HP better because they don't tear them up near as bad. If you don't save fur or reload Remington 55gr SP's will drop them.
