It's illegal to "capture, trap, take, or kill" any wild animal or wild bird on a public road or the right of way of public roads.

It's illegal but you can call the GW and get permission to recover deer hit by cars. May be possible for the heads/antlers too. I don't know

To heck with the antlers. I wish it was legal to scoop up one you just hit and take it home to the freezer. I've seen plenty in my few years get hit by a car in front of me and spin off into the ditch dead. A few days later they still lay there all bloated. Wasted meat.

I was headed north just coming into College Station in Dec and saw one with pretty good horns in the ditch on the side of the hwy with a guy sawing away. I could only grin and think he beat me to them.

Hunted in Wisconsin a few years back and seen a car hit a deer, called the sheriff he ask if I wanted the deer, said sure, he told me to gut it while he filled out a car kill tag. Then he said the deer was mine to take. I ask him to what if had been a decent buck? He said they would have done an investigation to make sure I did not intensionly hit it, then if all clear I could have it.

Hmm. I'd never looked into it down here but intend to do so. I wonder if a phone call to a GW would let me take a road hit one home.

it is only considered a reasonable error in judgement if it is on a neighbors property.

illegal, but I don't think I've ever seen a roadkill buck with the antlers still on. LOL...

I hear some other states allow you to call a GW and get a voucher if you hit one. Seems like a good idea.

I know a guy that was hunting during bow season in the hill country and their lease spanned across the highway, so he had to take the buggy back and forth across. Came back from the morning hunt and there was a young buck on the side of the highway that had just been hit but was sill alive. He call GW and was told he was on vacation and the other GW was on the other end of the country and all sheriff deputies were busy. If he felt comfortable shooting it go ahead but leave it there. So I did, I mean he did

I once leased from a guy who had a big grill guard on his truck. He would purposefully run down deer to feed his illegals.
