    Galveston in March? Spring Break

My boy has a martial art tournament the 17th of March at the Galveston Convention Center. I haven't been there in over 15yrs and never been there during Spring Break. Anyone spend SB there and have some input on what to expect? I know the beaches down here are ridiculous during this time. I'm debating whether I should get there a day early and how far from Galveston to book. Thanks in advance

Gonna be crowded, lots of people. The party scene isnt as large in Galeveston as it is in Corpus or SPI, but there are still a lot of vacationers. You may want to start looking at booking a room muy pronto or you will have slim pickins. Dont know if getting there early is really necessary, unless ya just want an extra day to check things out and do something.

Yeah that's what I was scared of. I grew up 40min from SPI and have spent 5hrs on a 2mile bridge during Spring Break. If Galveston isn't as bad then maybe we can find something 20/30min out that is reasonable. I know the prices 5X in SPI during Spring Break.

Your dates are at the end of the Texas colleges' spring break and the end of the Houston area public schools spring break so it will be the peak of Spring Break. Galveston is not a college party destination compared to many places but gets a lot of families.

We are at Pointe West at the West end of Galveston. All my condos are booked that week so I can't help you but if you want to stay outside of Galveston you should consider Pointe West or somewhere on West Beach. This is area is less crowded than in town and you don't have to deal with the congestion of the causeway or Bolivar Ferry to get away from town.

Even if you are not staying at the West end of Galveston you might be better coming in on 288/332 to Surfside to Galveston as I-45 can be a mess on Spring Break weekends.

If you want to stay near the convention center, all of the major hotels are within walking distance of the convention center.

You better book now. You actually may be to late.

Think...bikinis, bikinis, bikinis. Mayhem, mayhem, mayhem. If you are in a party hotel, expect no sleep. Might be better to look for a hotel between Houston and G'ston. If you are going with another family, a beach house would be the ticket. The ones away from the water are usually reasonable and cheaper or equal in price to hotel and much more pleasurable. Think Gilchrist and Crystal Beach. You will have to drive a bit, but it may be worth it.

          Your son will thank you.

There are two on 146 that are newer and the only ones i would consider. Turnarounds will be over by then so shouldn't be hard to get a room.

The Jungle over on Bolivar is not a crazy party anymore? Back in the 90s it made Port A and SPI look calm. Not college, more Houston weekenders.

Before they banned public consumption on the Island the party was Indian Beach/Jamaica Beach.
