I've lived here for 20 years and I still had to look it up. I also didn't know we were considered The West Pole.

I was told the legend of Bee Cave Bob when I was at the West Pole in October.

At the risk of getting something wrong...I'll take a stab.

Essentially there is a group of old gentlemen who gather at the West Pole in Bee Caves on February 2nd each year (I won't mention the name of this Order of men, nor their nickname...but it's worth mentioning that Darrell K Royal was a member and I believe I saw Willie Nelson mentioned as an honorary) to determine the political leanings of the upcoming year as determined by Bee Cave Bob...the armadillo. Bob is released onto a concrete slab from a long pipe, and along a line painted on the slab. If Bob turns right of the line, the upcoming year will trend to the right politically. If he goes left of the line...well, bad news.

It is my understanding that on Cold Feb 2s, the right side of the slab may or may not be subjected to some propane supplied heat before his realease, so as to provide Bob a more comfortable option. It was also implied to me, that if Bob ever turned left....the following years celebration may require a Bee Cave Bill....

Hard to believe Willie would be an honorary member to that. He's as left as anyone is.

After seeing your pics and description I now remember someone telling me about Bee Cave Bob about 4 or 5 years ago. I am really only familiar with BBQ BoB

Thanks for the info Dale! I had never heard of it either. The kids must have learned of it from a kid at school or something. All they told me was lets skip school and go see the magic armadillo come out of a hole and see if winter will be long or short lol. I was like no it's a groundhog, and they seemed to have a strong argument and the wife confirmed she had heard something about it on the news. Goes to show what i know haha

The wife told me the news said it was not open to the public. Maybe we will try next year.
