Yep. What would the genre of western movies be without the lifelong contributions of John Wayne or Clint Eastwood?

Like Howard Hawkes always said; you’ve gotta have great characters and three really good scenes. And I’d take Hawkes over Ford as far as directing westerns; El Dorado and Red River>Stagecoach and The Searchers.

He was great in The Cowboys but otherwise I tend to agree. Watch the trailer for The Searchers and tell me with a straight face that he is a good actor. I can see that you might agree with the way his character behaves or talks, but it’s just bad acting.

WHAT is the problem with "some of you?" The Duke, Eastwood, Augustus/Call....Kirk Douglas..don't judge Westerns from years past with the BS released infrequently movies these days?!

I just finished watching...again..."Return to Lonesome Dove" this morning. It got TRASHED by the critics (always watch what the "experts" don't like) and IMO it was very good. John Voight still kept the personality of Captain Call and a very good support cast!

Duke haters....it just ain't right..."Come on man!" "Fill your hand's you SOB!"

It needs to be made in 'America. No spaghetti western. With horses and cows, maybe a few chickens. Lol
I really like ones with a little history involved.

Classic western trend = family movie where noble hero saves the day. Mostly PG films
Modern western trend = dark settings and violence to shock the audience. Most are rated R

                          Jeff Bridges acting.

                          Taylor Sheridan writing.

                          Diane Lane in any capacity.

A couple of long range rifle shots.
