    Old Axis

Will age hinder horn growth in an old axis? I've seen one lately that looks like an old deer by the shape of his head and white hair on his face that should be more of his natural color. Kind of like the hair on an old dogs face. Antlers are only 16-18 inches long and hard horns not in velvet. I'm trying to figure out if he is old and can't grow a big rack anymore. Thanks.

Yes. They definitely do. Some old ones will. I can find an old picture of an old buck that was about 9

Yes it does hinder their growth just like a whitetail. We killed this one this year on our ranch and it’s the smallest he’s been.

        Picture of his teeth.
