    Dealing with incompentency

I'm in sales. I sent a part to our manufacturing team a week ago for quote for a new customer. It came back, I verified our margins, we were good. Quote went to customer, email came back today we're going to win the business.

Not five minutes before that email the plant randomly comes back that they made a mistake and the price is almost double.

Now this is just a rant, it's not that big of deal and I'm getting the details to drill down into what happened: are the margins truly crap? But man it just chaps my britches that we cannot get it right the first time, especially when we as a sales group are under SIGNIFICANT pressure to bring in new business...

    Rant over.

Is there a chance the half priced quote is what got the customer to accept the bid?

Unfortunately this is common in sales. My days are usually dictated on how well my operations team performs. Fortunately I have more good days than bad, but the bad days can be......

I deal with it everyday at my job. The secretary in charge of ordering the parts I been for the repairs I'm doing could screw up a free lunch!! I've gone back to just ordering them myself. I don't understand why the boss/owner puts up with it. Makes for some long days!

When I read the title and my dyslexia kicked in, I read 'incontinence'.
After the recent locked and deleted threads, I thought.
"This forum is going to hell in a handbasket".

It's all to common. If something doesn't go wrong is when I start worrying. Mostly dealing with utility companies trying to get services installed and activated.

I deal with it almost daily. Too many people expect someone to make their mistakes go away.

I'm curious to what commodity is you represent...I was in manufacturing (sales) & worked in Mexico for 14 years & only had the 100% deal come up a couple times. We did wire harnesses & electronic assemblies.

Was the error in labor or material??

One thing to remember to ease your mind is it is likely you were not the only source quoting...when we were out of line, most all my customers would note 'something is wrong with your quote' be it way too low or high!! They understand they will not get delivery if not profitable.
