My kiddo got drawn for a javelina hunt in chaparral wma. I called and they said that hunt area would be assigned. Every hunter would write down their 3 top areas to hunt. I have never hunted there and don't know anyone that has. Does anyone have a suggestion on the best hunt areas for javelina? I would take anything. Thanks guys. Hunting out there would it be best to bring my tripod and set it up?

I have hunted there many times. Congrats to your kiddo, y'all will have fun. There are javelinas everywhere on the Chap. Units with more cover will tend to hold more javelinas as they like to travel along the low drainages with thick cover, but any compartment is good. The best method is to find a sendero where you can see a long ways that ideally has multiple spots where javelinas have been crossing. A tripod is not really necessary unless you want to not make any deer you see as nervous. Take some lawn chairs and some shooting sticks, and setup on the downwind end of the road. Don't be afraid to put some corn out past your kids comfortable shooting range. If you have the wind in your favor, you can easily put a stalk on until y'all get in range. If it gets late in the hunt without luck, corn multiple senderos and you can drive and check them periodically in the truck to see if there are any javis on the corn. Hope this helps some.

Congrats
We hunted Hogue unit #6 & had success but the unit was assigned to us. We hunted the senderos & put out plenty of corn. We used some existing stands & also put out a tent blind.
Now there are some units on the opposite side of where we hunted that had true African warthogs...yes it’s true, no lie!
If I recall correctly, the warthogs were in a unit on the west side of the Chap & at some waterholes. The park rangers helped these girls get on them & they got two which was really cool.
Here’s a few pics...good luck !
