    West Texas Pronghorn

Looking for a hookup and an idea of price to hunt one. I'm driving to Alpine this fall to pickup my aoudad and javelina and am wondering if I could do a hunt along the way or near there. I'm in contact with an outfitter to find out where his hunting spots are for a possible Nilgai or Axis hunt and am wondering about a pronghorn hunt near Alpine.

I'm wondering what the price of a pronghorn hunt is and who to contact? I realize the biggest ones aren't in this part of Texas or even Texas. I am looking for a nice representative pronghorn.

    Thanks!

Alpine area, Wildlife Systems. (Greg Simons)
Alpine to Hudspeth County, High West Outfitters. (Jim Breck Bean)
Dan McBride in Hudspeth County. Do not know him, but know landowners he hunts on and they speak highly of him.

Biggest goats in Trans Pecos probably be in northern Hudspeth.
Prices vary by area, from $3,500 up to $6,000.

Looking into it as well. Hard to believe a texas antelope hunt would cost me more than private elk and muley in colorado we've done several times

        Those are all outfitted hunts.
Finding a landowner to buy directly from is the cheapest way.
Might be able to snag one for $1,500 to $2k.
Finding landowner is the difficult part.
All hunts in Texas are overpriced.

Stuff changes. I killed my first and only Texas goat near Ft. Davis back in the nineties. The cost was $1200, and I took a nice goat, 78 2/8", but it was way too easy to be much fun. Got him by 10:00 on the first day and the hardest part of the whole hunt was separating him from the twelve does he had corralled and the three other bucks that were trying to steal them. Since then, six more have bit the dust, but all in Wyoming and only one with a rifle, the rest were bow kills.

I was searching the web when the OP posted. I found a guided hunt for 2250 and of course there are higher.

Oh I know. My dad and his buddies used to hunt in montana for them back in the 60s and 70s. Tags were something like 3 bucks and you could buy as many as you wanted.

Far gone are the good ole days of hunting before it turned into a business

You can DIY in Wyoming for less than that, especially if someone shares gas and motel room. I've done it several times. Long drive, but doable in a long day and a half. Research on Wyo G&F website to see what units you might get with no points and go from there.

Same here, pretty much but mine was cheaper. I shot mine the first day and i think mine was 76 2/8. I saw so many chasing does, fighting, etc. it was hard to decide. Finally found mine bedded down with a doe. The tough part was the 9 hour drive home!

Its definitely pricey in Texas. Not many to go around. The Marfa herd got hammered in the drought and all the relocations come from TransPecos.

Desert Safaris at least used to hunt them around Marfa for another resource.

Good B&C chance on outfitted hunt in that part of Hudspeth that’s why those there are so high. Likely best hunts in the state hell maybe better than most of the country.

I have hunted with Doc McBride for years. The area he hunts in Hudspeth hold more B&C antelope than any other in the US. Area hold some tremendous antelope. While I was hunting this past year a guy shot and 87" antelope. Truly amazing antelope. Most of what McBride shoots is top tier antelope. He is not taking you out there to shoot a mid 70" antelope. All that said you are going to have to pay for top of the line.

I killed a nice goat in NM last year on a guided hunt for $2200 plus the like $300 tag fee. You have to really put in some work though to find decent prices.
