Ok so I have nailed it down. Flying to anchorage July 12. Denali the 13th & 14th including the long bus tour on the 14th. Drive to Talkeetna on the 15th. Fish 1/2 day the 16th. Drive to Seward on 17th (long drive). Undecided on trips in Seward?? Any suggestions? Then drive to Soldotna on 19th for the fishing trip. Fishing 20th, 21st, & 22nd. Fly out of anchorage on the 23rd. I hope that leaves us enough time to relax and enjoy some local flavors in Talkeetna and Seward.

One issue we had was that we went and went and went.... Easy to do with it never really getting dark! We had a blast and just didn't keep track of time. We would hike and then notice it was midnight! Still light, then it was light again at 3 or 4 in the morning and only really twighlight in between! We needed a vacation after the vacation!

Somewhat near Talkeetna is Montana Creek....You will cross it on your way to Denali for sure. Awesome place to stop and fish for chums and a few rainbows. We used bait casters. NOTE: Pay VERY close attention to the fishing regulations, it seemed that each area had some unique caveat.
In Seward we did a bad-*** guided sea kayaking trip with Liquid Adventures. We took a water taxi from Seward for about 1.5hrs (OUTSTANDING scenery) and they dropped us off at the kayaks where we paddled 'near' a glacier for hours. I say 'near' because my distance perception is really bad in the mountains and I know we weren't close enough to be in danger. One of the more memorable events was a chunk of ice we watched tumble down the face of the glacier and into the water. A few seconds later the magnitude of what just happened came into perspective as we could hear very loud and thunderous booms as it bounced along. The guide told us it was "probably the size of a Toyota." It was big. On the water taxi on the way back, we saw some whales and they stopped so we could enjoy and take pics... Very impressive.

I'll be doing the RV thing for 10 days starting in late July. There are 7 groups of us with a friend who lives there "guiding" us around. I just got the itinerary today: Anchorage, Kenai, Valdez, Fairbanks, Denali... About 1500 miles. The family who is showing us around has done this with a different group of friends every summer for the last couple years and everyone says it is the best vacation ever.

I would go with option 2. It will be the start to your Alaskan addiction. We went there for on our family vacation my junior year of college and my parents fell in love with it so much they bought property on the kenai so that they had a place to stay to make multiple trips a year.
I would stay away from cruises in my opinion, you only get to see the coastline and miss most of what AK has to offer. The glacier day cruise is not too bad, you see in one day what you would see in a whole week on a normal cruise. Flightseeing tours, I would suggest a fly out fishing trip, you get 2 for the price of 1. My advice would be fly to anchorage, rent a car and just drive. FYI do not rent the vehicle from the airport, get a taxi to a rental car place its half the price!

Here's my trip we took last summer
We did Denali, Homer, and Seward after starting/ending in Anchorage.
Roads were all WAY better than I expected and I'd do an RV next time. IMO it would be easier than a car and getting hotels etc. Hotel/motels, B&B's were easy with nice people but then you almost have to eat out.
Send me a PM if you want to talk.
