    Morel Mushroom Timing?

I was wondering if any of you guys knew what time morels tend to show up. I would be looking in Wise, Grayson, Denton, and Fannin counties. It will be my first year looking for them, and any pointers would also be appreciated.

I tend to have no problem finding chicken and hen of the wood, but they produce many more months of the year.

You must be a yankee lol. I lived in Pennsylvania for 10 years and that is how I got addicted to them. Earliest I have ever found in north Texas is late February 2012. Very warm winter. Most years it’s late March.

In Missouri usually mid April on into May. Didn't even know they had them in Texas. Never figured out the appeal myself. They're alright but to me not worth the effort my buddies put into it. I'm not a fried foods eater so . . .

I honestly didn't know they grew that far south. Good luck searching!

Haha! Nope, not a yankee. I stumbled upon a few several years ago with someone who happened to be familiar with what they were. Wanted to find some ever since. My post season deer scouting never really lined up with timing, so I decided to make a concentrated effort this year.

First time I had them (and one of the only times) they were sautéed in butter and served on top of a steak..... freaking delicious.

mid March to late April in Cooke county.
been hunting and eating them for 30 years
like em fried, sauteed, and the wife makes a killer chicken fricassee with em
can't figure out what makes for a good year - rain at certain times, colder or warmer weather at certain times, haven't figured it out
look under elm, cedar, and ash trees in creek drainages
              good luck
              crappie and morels yum yum
