Rip Van Winkle 10 Year Old

Just how had is this to find? I guess I got lucky.
I bought a bottle as a gift and then I looked online and discovered I paid double retail price...
    BUT
Folks are trying to sell the same bottle online for 5x what I paid for it.?!?

    Really?

Really hard for a whiskey of that quality. I never understood the demand.

Do you want to sell it?

Just got a bottle myself, simply for the novelty. Never been a whiskey guy, but it's a cool thing to have sitting out. Almost laid hands on 20 yr, but the district GM of a certain chain of Alchohol stores wouldn't let me lol. Crazy the money people offer him throughout the yr, if he will promise them a bottle when it finally comes in.

Are you saying the quality is has to find? Or you don’t understand the demand because of the quality?

I’ve tasted the full line of Pappy and I think at/bear retail they’re good but i just never bought the hype based on what you can get for the price people pay

To the OP: if you paid anywhere near retail (2x is terrible for what’s I’ve seen) it’s a good pour. It has a great story and people buy into it for that. IMO Elijah Craig single barrel or even Small Batch (from Heaven Hill) is a better pour but crack that thing open and see how you like it

Knowing the hype somewhat I was shocked to even find it available and the person I bought it for will appreciate it so it wasn't so much about the cost.

Direct from the distillers website: $59.99 I paid $70 so I guess I didn't do that bad.

I'm saying for the $100+ per bottle whiskey, there are many other options.

You did very good at that price. I would add it to my shelf for $70.

I’d say that’s a great buy at $70. There is a shop in Fort Worth that is asking $499 and she said she sells out every year at that price

                      Yelp.

In a nutshell some retailers will charge msrp others secondary market.

Maybe I'm just a cheap *ss or stuck in my ways, but I'll take Jack or Jim and call it a day.

It's decent, at retail. Anything above retail (as in secondary), is NOT worth it! And that's for ALL of the Pappy's.

It's okay but there are better for less in my opinion.

Nice to have a bottle to give to a friend though, that's a nice touch.

                              Anyone price it at Costco?
