Nathan saved his $ from skinning deer heads and bought a Gamo Wildcat Whisperer. I'm at my wits end trying to get any accuracy at all out of this thing. Does the gun suck? Does the scope suck? Any suggestions before we take it back to Academy?

Yes on both accounts... but... You can get it to shoot good enough to whack sparrows and such at 30 yards or so... First thing you should do is take the scope off, clean the mounts and scope and re-mount it with clean dry parts. Second buy some heavier pellets. Those Gamo and other low end guns all brag about how fast they shoot when in reality a diabolo pellet will not stablize when they are flung out at 1000+ feet per second, especially the lighter ones. Get some heavier pellets and that will slow the gun down to a manageable speed. It will make it more sensitive to range, but it will make it more accurate too. Also break barrel guns are a special breed. They like to be caressed, not held for best accuracy. Get on you tube and search for "artillery hold" and use that to mount and shoot the gun. Basically it is a hold that secures the gun against your shoulder, but is not held onto at the forearm. You basically let it sit in your open hand, or on a sand bag so that it is free to move....
Not a high end or even a quality gun, but there ARE things that you can do to make it shoot reasonably well.
Good luck.

All exactly right. Just upgraded to a hammers 3-9x40 and it's great, very clear and very repeatable. Adjustments have been dead on. Regular rifle scopes wouldn't stay steady.
Free hand shooting is more accurate than using a fence post or anything else to rest the gun on.
I shoot 14.3 grains out of 22cal gun. Very quiet
