Looked but couldn't see how much smaller the bed of the truck is or did they just widen the whole truck?

They have drain plugs in the bottom.

As long as the bed is still 50" wide, on the floor, I think it's a brilliant idea.

From the picks it looks like they eliminated the wheel well inside the bed.A sheet of plywood should still fit.
