The consistency is like MUSH, that is what turns me off! Have had them in the square in Pittsburgh also with hot sauce and crackers, still didn't like em.
Cooked some tonight. 3 hours in the oven at 225 in a foil pan then about a minute over charcoal grill after poking them to char/sear them. Yummm. Just don't read the ingredients list.

My wife takes one look at them & won’t touch. I’ll admit they’re not the most appealing to the eyes

Same here. We pass Doc's in Gilmer regularly on the way through Pittsburg to Lake Bob Sandlin. I finally bought some from both places. I honestly threw them away. I just didn't like their taste. Mushy and full of grease!
Try a "chi hot chi" at the restaurant in Pittsburg. They cut up links and put them in a bowl with chili, nacho cheese, onions and peppers. Pour over some of their hot sauce and tear it up. Then, prepare for the colon cleanse you have coming a few hours later.
I can get them at Brookshires in Whitehouse already cooked which I do on occasion. Just thought I might give them a try. However, I think I’m the only one that will eat them in my family. They’ll pack a good work lunch for the week
I used to carry them when I ran a meat dept. for Brookshires. I actually sold very few of them though. I also sold Dallas City hotlinks when I worked for Winn Dixie. They sold fairly well but were pretty nasty.
Man, I know people that come up here from Dallas and buy several cases every trip. Of course, most people prefer to just buy them cooked unless they are gonna smoke them.
