Looks like one hell of a sophisticated water bong.

If it's what I am thinking, it's a diesel burning heater. They are pretty dang cool and work extremely well.

One of the best heaters you can get. Put out some serious heat. I would like to have one as well. several buddies of mine have them. they lucked into them a garage sale years ago. I've seen them online and thought about ordering one.

What’s the fuel source and what were they originally designed for? Very interesting. Never heard of such a thing like that before.

They are used in during cold weather in orchards to keep damaging frost from forming on fruit trees.

We always had one in our barn. In the winter we could work on tractors & equipment - while staying warm. The barn was well vented. I have not seen one since 1984 or so

I've heard 'em called hard hat heaters and salamanders. They do put out the heat.

we run diesel in them. they smoke a little at first until they get going. Burn pretty clean after that. They are used in orchards. I have heard they where / are used by the military as well but not sure on that.

That plate on top is to warm your breakfast tacos on.

Kerosene heater is what we called them. They put off some heat too!

Always heard my granddad call them salamanders. They used them in construction mainly building bridges.
