    Rage vs. Montec

Well, started the year off shooting the Rage. Opening weekend, had a doe at 7 yards and shot her. Got a good pass thru but hit deer just a bit back, but dead center. She staggered, walked behind me and I thought she hit the ground. Got down about 30-minutes later and recovered the arrow with some blood, but hardly any good spray. Followed trail for less than 100 yards and no blood and no deer. Most of the last 50-yards was specks here and there. Never recovered the deer, thinking she went into the tank that was in the area and that was the way she was headed.

About a week later, shot another deer and she backed up just at the release and hit her right behind the shoulder. Arrow only stuck in a couple of inches, and deer took off with arrow hitting mesquites. NO blood at all and never found the arrow (the high dollar Maxima's) and a Rage head.

Yesterday, saw the same doe as described in the 2nd, as I've gotten several pics over the last month of the deer. Shot her at 17 yards with Montec and it was great. As soon as arrow hit, which was a little high, blood went everywhere, and everytime deer hit the ground running, looked like somebody was driving down the road with the window down and throwing a cup of coffee out the window. Deer ran 50 yards and stumbled and was DRT.

I'm thinking I'm staying with the Montec instead of the Rage.

I killed a buck 2 does and 6 hogs with the rage two blade this year and could tell someone nothing but good things about them. All died very close and with great blood trails.

I have nothing bad to say about Rages. Complete pass thru on the 180lb buck in my avitar and 2 does + multiple hog pass thrus all this year! I have been hunting with both and can say I have had fixed blades not pass thru. Can't say the same for the rage. It all depends on where ya hit'em! I have never seen a video, or seen it in person, where a some one puts an arrow right behind the shoulder like you said you did, and only get a couple of inches penetration. Right behind the shoulder is such a soft spot that if you have a decent set up for a bow you should will get more penetration than that!

I dont know about the Rage BH's as i havent shot them (im not a fan of a mech. head at all) but, the G5's are the BOMB! I have shot both the Montec's and the Strikers. I personally like the Strikers better cause they seem to be a bit sharper outa the box and as stated above, they have the replacable blades. IMO, you cant go wrong with either of the G5's!

I shot a doe last night with a 2 blade rage. Man, those things are wicked. The shot was a little far back and it did a number on her. So far so good with rage BH.

I have shot both and l have had good and bad results with both. I went with the Rage this year I like the bigger hole that they make. The 1 bad result was because of shot placement. I hit the doe low and foward shot threw shoulder elbow and chest bones and only got about 6'" of penatration. This was a bad shot on my part. The G5'S that I have used just didn't make a big enough hole for me. Which didn't leave a good blood trail. This was because of shooting high. They are both good heads. In fact I have both in my quiver along with a Muzzy MX3 blade which are good broadheads as well. I have noticed for me that it all depends on shot placement what kind of results you get. Just my opinion on the results that I have gotten from both.

2 rage harvested deer this year. 1 pass through, dbbl lung, with a blind man blood trail. Dead deer found 40 yrds later. 2nd one, no pass through. Arrow lodged in opposite shoulder. Another good blood trail and deer found 30 yards later. Both where with the 2 blade. Only complaint is that if blades are accidentally brushed up against something, they will need to be reset. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this. But have not seen any posts on this Rage issue on here yet.
