    tire repair question

Have a brand new set of E rated tires on my 10,000K gross trailer...less than 500 miles on tires. Had a nail in one and getting it patched. Is this strong enough and will it last? Just makes me nervous hauling big loads long distances. Do I have anything to worry about or will a patch work and be good as new or should I replace the tire?

As long as nail wasn't on/near sidewall you should be good and expect it to hold.

It was right on edge where sidewalk meets thread.

Wouldn't be any different than patching a tire on the tow vehicle. Low air pressure on trailer tires is what causes problems.

I would fix it, but swap out with the spare if it is the same tire.

I would only use it as a spare. if it went in at the sidewall and tread the patch more than likely isn't flat and has a higher failure rate.

You will be fine, you think big rigs buy new tires everytime they pick up a nail.

Plug it and roll on down the road, I keep a plug kit in the console.

Tire guy did a patch-plug combo...said it will run forever like that. Guess we shall see.

I myself prefer the plug patch.
                    I drive 18 wheelers.

I plug my tires when I picked up nails. Never had issues.
I went to with for a guy that hated plugs and was a patch only guy.
Fine it was his money. W why to the tire shop to get a patch. Salesman said to plug it and carry on. I told him what the boss said.
                    He replied
ok. But what keeps water from getting in the belt and causing that to fail?

I lived in Michigan with snow, ice and salt.

I am still a plug it guy
