I have asked this question to a few people that I know and the few guys that I trust to know, and they have told me that the cotton seed can be too hot for them at certain times of the year (or something to that affect), so I have shy'd away from the cotton seed...I don't want to hurt the animals, just to save a few bucks....and I guess I did not want to put in the time to research it so's that I would know for sure....

For all I know the guys that I spoke with about it might not know come from sick em' about it but they were the only ones I knew of that ran hunting operations..

I will also be interested to learn something from this thread...

we shouldn't feed cottonseed for very long. it is very good for short periods if the deer in your area will even eat it. the deer in my part of Jack county don't.

I have heard great things about it. Only negative is to quit 1 to 2 months before the rut as it lowers the bucks sperm count. If you quit feedint it for a month or two it gives them the time to get back to healthy levels and breed. Also hogs cant eat it, something about the difference in deer and hogs stomach, or they will die. More bang for your buck as not many other wild animals will eat it. We are about to start feeding it. Another positive is rain or condensation will not break it down like protein pellets

cotton seed hulls has more calcium in it so it is better for the deers body than it is the antlers just dont feed it to the deer year round while protein pellets is for antler growth because all of the protein in it because most of the deers antlers are made up of protein

Cottonseed or cottonseed hulls are two different things. Deer love cottonseed, especially Mule Deer. I feed it free choice but I have not tried cottonseed hulls. Has anyone tried feeding just the hulls? We call the hulls gin trash and the gins will usually give it to you. Cottonseed on the other hand is $185 a ton.
