I've hunted in states where deer drives were the preferred, and very effective, method. Shots at deer moving quickly is the norm. I've done this in rifle and shotgun only areas. Honestly I'm not uncomfortable with it at all although I have my own range and circumstance limitations that I stick to. I've shot many running coyotes, pigs, rabbits and other small game and it's just something you can do or you can't. Some people can't accurately throw a ball or hit a pitches ball.

Would I prefer all my game shots to be sitting in a blind with a solid rest shooting at an animal eating under a feeder?

    He'll no.

Did it once on a deer. It worked, but I wasn’t happy with the result. The only way I would do it now is on an already wounded deer.

I killed a trotting 10 point at 20 yds when I was 22 yrs old and dumb and lucky with a recurve.

I've killed probably 4-5 deer walking at 10 yds or less with a recurve. I really think they have less of a tendency to duck while walking.

I shot a hog running at about 5 yds with a recurve. Good hit in the lungs. I ran up to him and he spun. I threw a Bowie knife and hit him in the neck and he went down. Again 22 yrs old young and dumb.

Have not shot any thing moving in years.

Never on deer that I recall every thing else is free game fire at will.

Made a 50 yard shot with a .40 S&W pistol on an axis buck that was running. Looked like he was hit by the hand of God.

Might not count but bow fishing all the time. At a mammal no way. I am happy to hit a target at 30 yrds with 3 arrows in a silver dollar.

I shot a deer running many years ago and killed it DRT but I don't take low percentage shots as a rule. My BIL on the other hand...

I have on a running doe. Bad idea but found her. I was young and dumb learned a big lesson.

It’s funny to hear not worth the risk of wounding a animal in my opinion everyone and every time you pull a trigger sling a arrow your at risk of just wounding the animal your aiming at.

First buck I ever shot was running. I was so excited to see antlers on a deer, I just went into shoot mode. I was 12 so I had no idea I couldn't make the shot. I actually hit him right in the shoulder and he went down like a sack of nails. Complete luck shot and I would never do again. Hogs and yotes different story.

If yall can shoot hogs and yotes on the run, why not deer? Its the same thing, lead, swing through the shot.

No, it's not the same thing. I don't care where I hit hogs or coyotes, and I care where I hit deer. May be the same for you.

I heard it said "better to shoot and miss than to have never shot at all!"

In many cases I agree. Not all, but many.

I just asked my nephew this question. His reply was who is holding the spot light.
