To many bucks?

Is it possible to have to many bucks? We have killed 7 this year and I’m seeing probably 4 bucks to every doe each time I hunt. 95% of them are young but I’ve been on this lease for 10 years and have never seen this many. I had 7 at the feeder this afternoon when I left at dark.

Same here in McCulloch county. Had 9 bucks and 4 doe.

So that is where all my bucks have disappeared to----I have exactly 2 bucks at my 3 stands since December 5th! not good.

I am noticing this in the antler restriction counties, more bucks than does now but still closer to a 1:1 male/female ratio than before the AR, so not perfect but better than it used to be when there were way more does than bucks.

Not a problem bucks are just coming to feeder after the rut to fill their empty guts

I've got the same in Nacogdoches. Lots of bucks to doe ratio.

Yes I am in an AR county and have on average 5-8 bucks at different feeders. They out number does by a good margin. Most are typical 8's and a few 10's.

I have feeders that only have bucks and one that has had nothing but does since August.

Unless the deer you are seeing are aged 3.5+, then I'd recommend laying off the bucks and shooting does...you are much smarter in following the management principles, and with a higher buck to doe operation, you will have a shorter rut, which is better for management long term.

I've heard that following periods of major stress such as droughts of 2011 and 2013 that doe drop a higher ratio of males to females. It certainly seems to be the case on our lease. I think with rain the past few years and bucks naturally higher mortality rates the ratio should get back in line over time.

I also have way more bucks than does this year, but all of mine are fawns thru 2 1/2 years old.
