Eat Javelina??

Anyone here actually eat Javelina....and think it tastes good? Did a quick search and didn’t see much on consumption.

Do they taste anything like wild hog? I think East Texas hog is better than store bought.

From what I have looked into they are actually a large rodent.

I have seen some cool mounts though.

It has a gamier taste than barn cat does, but if you deep fry it and smoother it it ketchup. .....you can usually keep it down.

I've eaten several. Tastes pretty good.

Soak it 24 hours in ice water smoke it slowly it great

slow cooker with carrots, potatoes ect.. or chop fine on tacos

I have tried it a couple of times, I guess it wasn't cooked or maybe cleaned right as I didn't like it, that being said I didn't like my bear much

Study the herd hard, look for a young female, let the cowboys wife work her magical carne guisada tricks with homemade tortillas and you should be ok.This worked in Mexico. Ive had it go terribly wrong before too when I tried to cook it on this side of the river. Its possible to burp musk bag

Gotta get the hide off without touching the scent gland or getting the musk on the meat. Do that, and it's good.

If you do get the scent gland/musk on the meat, cook it on a cedar plank over mesquite coals. Throw the javelina away and eat the cedar blank.

Lol. I put them on a plank smoke them throw them away and eat the plank. I have waisted many planks perfecting the recipe.

Seriously, I've eaten one, and it didn't taste bad or good to me, but then I don't eat wild hogs either. I have a hard time eating stuff that would eat me or anything else that it found dead.
