I shot this buck Friday afternoon. 7 years old and run down from the rut, but still a brute. Low fence Irion county. I had quite a few deer down at the feed pen and road corn when I seen him at the top of a hill about 265 yards out. Could tell right away that he was a buck that was on the hit list. He followed, what looked like a doe, down the hill and stood at the back of the feed pen.....giving no shot opportunities. Something must have not looked right and he went right back up the hill and out of sight. 15 minutes or so later, he came back out, but stood behind a tree for what seemed like forever. Finally a doe must have smelled right and the other younger bucks started towards her and down off the hill he came. Bad mistake on his part!
The pictures really don't do him justice, but here is a trail cam pic, from October.
He had lost quite a bit of weight, but was still tough to load in the truck. Roughed scored at 134 1/2 and will get an official score from the taxidermist. Oldest buck I've ever taken.
