    Defrosting VEnison Hamburger

Can you do this in microwave? Mines in deep freeze and always takes 2-3 days to defrost if I put it in the fridge. any tips? Didnt grow up eating venison and now we have a couple hundred pounds that I want to eat throughout this year.

Microwave works. I usually fill my sink with hot water and put the package of meat in there. Thaws pretty quickly.

Will thaw pretty quick if you put the package on granite counter tops, if you have granite counter tops.

I defrost mine in less than an hour and I refuse to use the microwave. Fill up one side of the sink with luke warm/room temp water. Put the burger in a zip lock bag if not already in water proof bag and put it in the water. Within an hour should be thawed. If not, drain water if it’s gotten cold and refill. Works like a champ!

If it's in those little waterproof bag, just put it in the sink with hot water... If it is not water-tight, put it in a zip loc bag and then put it in the sink with said hot water... That's one reason I have switched to vacuum sealing all my meat and fish (most veggies too). You can go from the freezer to a pot of boiling water, or in the case of venison steaks or burger, freezer to sink full of water...

            Dang, I must type slow...

In the sink without water or in bowl. Thaws in 4-5 hrs then put in fridge till ready to cook

You can put it in some hot water to speed the process. I usually set some venison steak out in the morning on an aluminium pan and it is ready to eat that afternoon. Aluminium is a great heat conductor and will pull in ambient heat and defrost it rather quickly.

Microwave does work, just make sure you rotate the product around and cook it as soon as possible after you thaw it.
I do NOT recommend letting it set in a sealed package in HOT water as this greatly increases the bacteria growth that can lead to food poisoning. The approved ways to thaw frozen meat are:
                  - in a refrigerator
                  - under cool running water that is 70* or below
                  - in a microwave (then cook it as soon as possible)
                  - part of the cooking process.
Just my thoughts after working in food service for over 25 years...

What are you going to do with it? To make patties yes, it will need to be completely thawed like above. For chili, stroganauff, soup etc. , I will just put it in the pot on very low heat with a lid and stir/ roll it around.

I wouldn’t put it in the microwave. The outside usually ends up cooking and the inside will still be frozen.

Put it in warm to hot water in the sink depending on how fast you need it to thaw.

Just set it out the night before on the counter when you go to bed and the next morning its ready. Store in fridge until you cook it that evening. You can check it during the night when you get up to relieve and see if its ready to go to the fridge. If its thawed halfway or more then your good for fridge.

Might as well repeat answers as above, but yes, leave on counter for an hour or 2 and that is usually plenty of time. You can speed up process with water. I was told to use luke warm water instead of hot water but I have done both and haven't ever got sick. I never microwave to defrost
