High speed internet options, not cable or dsl?

So next month I will be taking a certification test so I can get a job working from home. This job(medical coding) requires high speed internet with both high speed download and upload. With where we live now it is not a problem since we live close enough to town to have either high speed cable or dsl internet.

However, we both want to find a little piece of property outside of town sometime in the next couple of years. But if there is no high speed internet then I can’t work from home. So, is there a high speed internet (upload and download speeds) option for those living out of town?

What are the actual requirements you need up and down?

You can get air cards from all major cell phone providers for internet. Also a lot of rual companies proving broad band service these days as well as dish and direct tv.

In certain rural areas there is fiber that has been installed. You'll need to see what the provider has installed in the area you are looking to move to. Fiber is capable of higher upload and download speeds than cable and DSL.

From what I know, at least 100 mb/sec download speeds are needed. As far as upload speeds needed I am not sure. The company does give $100 a month for the fastest internet you can get.

How far are you looking to get out of town? Are you still in Waco? That’s where I grew up my whole life.

My wife and I moved further away from Austin (bout 30 miles East) and the internet speed is one of the big adjustments. Direct TV can’t get here, so we are on basically dsl speeds with some local company. I’m sure it just depends on the location

Currently we are living right at the edge of the Waco city limits on the north side of the lake. Out of my back door I can see farm land which is outside of the city limits. We would like to live another 5-10 miles out. Moving down south about 20 miles outside of San Antonio is another area that we are contemplating.

100mb That has to be overkill. At my previous employer, we had several remote workers who operated just fine (VOIP phones and Citrix sessions) on 4-10.

100 would be necessary if it were being shared with multiple users.

My Brother works for Frontier. Mentioned they now offer a rural "up to 12Mb" DSL in some areas. Might check with them.
