    Chimney Extension

I need to extend my stone chimney about 8’. My idea is to put a metal cap with a 8” hole in the middle on the top of the stone chimney. Then install a 8” x 8’ pipe with a chimney cap on top.
The pipe needs to be sturdy enough for freestanding (I can put a brace about 4’ from the chimney for support).
Anyone in the Livingston, TX area for supplies? Or do you have other ideas?
    Thanks.

Need to get it above the roofline. Getting a back draft of smoke into the house.

Stupid builder did my chimney the same way. I just gave up and put gas logs in.

I'm thinking the wag you want to do it will not be a good idea.
Is it an old school chimmny made with clay flu pipe or new with tin pipe?
In either case I think the best fool proof way would be to take rock down to area where new addition can be attached to current not attached above.
I'd be worried about the transition between current top and the metal plate you mentioned .

It’s flue brick to the top.
