    Rage Trypan penetration issue?

I used a Rage trypan for the first time this morning on an axis. I was not impressed at all. It made a big entry hole but failed to make an exit wound. The shot was perfect and hit nothing but ribs. My bow is a Z7 extreme at 64#. It did the job but the penetration really bothered me. I have never had this problem with Ramcat, slick trick or reapers. Is this the norm for the Trypan or was it just a fluke? I would have gotten a pass thru with my longbow at 18 yards with that shot placement. The snow made the tracking very easy but 99.9% of the time I won’t have snow to help.

Not sure what others have experienced, but I have shot 2 deer with the trypan this season and had a pass through on both with short tracking jobs...

Great shot! How far did he go? With an entry hole like that, most of mine haven't made it out of the feed pen, or fell just outside of it!

You are not alone. Poor penetration is a on going problem with rage. This will be my first and last season with them. I'm going back to thunderheads and may give swackers a chance.

They've blown through everything that I've shot so far including a 180# boar.

I’ve shot lots of deer and pigs with rage with no issues.
I shot a buck last month with a trypan and had a clean pass thru. I have shot axis with rage and not had clean pass throughs but axis have much thicker hides so I don’t expect a pass through every time. Don’t think you should ever expect better penetration qualities from an expandable vs fixed.

                  Getting my popcorn ready.

I've shot two deer with Rage two blades and neither passed through...and so I went back to Slick Tricks. Not bashing, just prefer a pass through!

Shot 3 with them this year all pass through and one passed so hard it skipped off a feed pen panel behind him never to be found again

                        Rage Trypan penetration issue?

It don’t matter what head you use...you will never get a passthrough every single time. Yeah, some folks say they get a passthrough every single time with this or that blade, but eventually you’ll have one not. I’ve arrowed close to 80 pigs this year using probably 6 different heads....they’ve all passed through animals and I’ve also had instances where they did not.

It was not back. The broadhead just broke the skin on the opposite side. It did not contact anything besides hide, ribs and internal organs. The buck was stone dead at 80-90 yards. The penetration was about what I expect on a quarter away shot when I drive it in the off shoulder but this was true broadside. I am not knocking the Trypan. It looks wicked and it did the job. I just worry on a less than ideal shot about no exit wound. I guess after watching videos of shooting it thru steel drum lids I expected something different. I will try it again and see what happens. I was just looking for real world experience from others that use Trypan. It does make a big entry hole.

I shot a 6x6 bull elk in Colorado this year, blew right through him. He went about 150 yards and he was done. Broke the entry side rib, went between ribs on the exit. I love them. BT-31 set at 62 pounds.
