The way this happens, is Akina's agent called and asked about the opening. Doing what a good agent does, keeps options open for his client. He then goes to Akina and presents the information about the position. That information may have been, sorry we aren't looking or it might have had a lot of other strings attached. Then the agent call's the reporters and says Akina has turned down the job.

I realize that this looks very much like I'm looking through maroon glasses but this is the business side and it's just how business is done between coaches and universities. It happens every year, agent's use open positions to build up their clients.

Despite our love of our University, our dedication as a fan base, our financial commitment to a school's football program. For coaches it's a job and they are fired the day they are hired so it's always about building your resume for the next job. That's why they coach bowl games just as hard after they were fired and know what their next job is. And yes, even that coach that you swear it's different for, it's the same for him.
