Good luck, I hope you feel better soon. I'm fortunate, diet, exercise, and natural supplementation work for me at 48. Will see what the future holds.

Be sure to get your PSA checked regularly as well. Prostate cancer "feeds" on testosterone. I had prostate cancer three yrs ago, removed prostate, did radiation, and hormone treatments. Hormone treatments remove testosterone. Last two dr visits PSA was zero. Having no or very low T really sucks but the cancer is in check.
Too long story short keep an eye on PSA.

Update: since starting testosterone treatment I have lost three lbs this week. I'm not sure if it was the testosterone, or the diet and exercise or a combination of both. The first three days of taking the shot I felt like a champ, tons of energy and feeling good. But then it kinda tapered off. I think it's because I haven't exercised in months and my body was feeling it. But, I wasn't as sore as I thought that I would be and I'm ready for week two. The weekend was a little tough for me, I tried to eat as best as possible, but it is the weekend which I call my cheat days and I did put down some beers. I'll be sweating off the beers tomorrow for sure.

Well, going on week three and I've lost seven pounds so far. I'm still not sure if the testosterone is helping or not. There are days when I'm full of energy and feel great, and then there are days that I feel just okay. Still not sure if it's been the testosterone or the working out that has me feeling a little better. On my last appt. they told me that I really wouldn't start to truly feel it till about the sixth week. They told me that at week six they would test me again to see where my t levels were at. They said more than likely my dose would need to go up. But, so far so good. I've been working out at least four times a week, so that's way better than before I started taking the testosterone. Also, I'll be hunting tomorrow through sat so there might, or might not, be a lot of eating and drinking.
