    Watering Systems

I’m interested in seeing your deer watering stations and lessons learned. I think I’d like to use a tote with the float to manage water flow, etc. but am open to what will work best?

    Thanks

    G.

this is in one of my small feed pens. Its a gravity flow out of a 55 gallon barrel. Im lucky to get 60 days before refilling.

Big feed pen has a 300 gallon tote and it lasts a good while.

Make sure antlers do not touch anything while drinking...

      FYI squirrels love PVC!!!

The guys next to us have no water on their place so he took a large metal watering tank, built a basic lean too over the top with corrugated metal on top and put a gutter system that caught all the runoff from the roof and directed it into the tank and if it did not rain then he filled it up with water from tanks in his truck. Works like a charm and not very expensive and easy to build.

I used a plastic 55 drum turned sideways and plumbed to a trough with a float. Additionally, I cut another drum in half longways and laid half of it on top that drained into the main drum. It acted as a huge rain catch. If that makes sense. I don’t have a pic.

No photo, but used a plastic drum that I tapped a faucet to the side near the bottom
Ran a hose to a small trough with a built in float. Works well. Fill it with another barrel in the bed of a truck. Cheap and easy.

Someone on here had a great watering system with black pipe, separate float catch in concrete and a concrete ground level drinking station. I'm going to build one similar but not till the holidays. Use the search, I think it was in the last year.

Check the DIY section for watering system. Bar2hunter has one I modeled mine after. Only difference was I buried a bucket in the ground right by the unit for a trough. Here’s a pic of his. I sold my setup a long time ago.

Search ATC for watering systems. You will find more than you need.

My pics for both my blinds are located here... I also have doubled up each system with 2 totes. Sure makes it nice not having to fill it up as often. My deer and turkey use the heck out of mine even while I'm in the blind....

I have a covered feed trough that feeds into a 75 gallon waterer. I also have a small water trailer that i use to fill different water stations every 2 weeks.

Nice ! Thanks all for sharing - what are the fitting sizes/type from tote to convert down to day 1” pvc into a float?

We reduce it down to 3/4"WH to use braided washing machine hoses so freezes don't crack them....Now I do run those hoses through big PVC for critter stomping protection.

                              The reduction is a

                              2" threaded coupler with a 2" slip
                              2" to 3/4"npt bushing
                              3/4"npt to 3/4"wh adapter
