What poundage do you think is enough to hunt deer and hogs with

The type of broad head for low poundage thread got me to thinking what poundage do y'all think is ok to shoot a deer are hog with I'm getting my 12 year old daughter a bow and was just wondering how much she should be pulling before I take her out hunting?

My first bow pulled 40lbs. Not much help otherwise... Was 12 or 13.

There was a young man that killed a doe this weekend pulling 35lbs with a 85 grain head.

        I think 35lb is a good number

With a good, modern compound bow shooting 30-35 pounds you should be fine on deer and smaller hogs. You need perfect arrow flight and a cut on contact head. I always like Magnus stingers for for starters. Some extra foc helps. Gotta keep shots close, aim low, make sure angles are good and don’t shoot when animals are alert/looking at you. I watched a lady archer shoot through a bull elk with 38 pounds. It can be done!

My daughter killed her first deer and pig at 36lbs 24” dL
              We used Magnus 100gr stingers

I would think a longer pull can make a decent difference as well.

I know at one time there was a minimum of 40 pound draw per TPWD regulations. Not sure if that still stands.

Good to know. I’m about to get my nephew squared away to start shooting.

My son shot his first deer pulling 32#s @ 22" draw length, 100grain Magnus Stinger and he was limited to 15 yds MAX.

As others have said 35 is sufficient for close/reasonable shots. Both of my sons killed deer and hogs pulling 35 lbs and shooting magnus stingers. I always limited them to 15 yards, usually had a good pile of hand corn at about 12 yards that they could easily see. Some of my favorite videos of my boys childhood's are those early bow hunts and our discussions about whether he's close enough to shoot...good times I'll always treasure.

I guided a 9 yr old girl several years ago on a cow elk hunt. She was shooting 30lbs and sank a Magnus Stinger up to the fletchings at 15 yards. Didn't center punch a rib but took a good chunk out of one going in. Broadhead was just sticking out the far side.

Sometimes I think back to the best kill shots and they were with my 47 Navajo Caddo Long Bow. The arrow did not punch through both sides, but that phantom 125 grain broad head remained in the cavity and those deer and hogs did not go far at all. I heard them all crash up within 70 yards.
