I would say get to know your neighbors on that size of a property.

I have good neighbors and 5 acres that I kill deer on every year. Only had one jump the fence but I had made a bad shot.

        Exactly!

Hunt it, make good kill shoots . Set a good good spot make it hard on the deer after the shot to get to the fence line . I hunt a 9 acre path and haven’t had a problem I use the biggest broad head and shoot from a stand 20 foot up.

I hunted it with a rifle over Thanksgiving(killed an Axis), but I'd really like to be able to bow hunt it. There are some decent bucks there, and plenty of does. I'm headed back in January to kill a few does for the freezer and am thinking of taking the bow. The way the pa-in-law has the blind and feeder setup, I've got a <50 yard shot. So unless you head-shoot them, you loose more meat than you might think thanks to blood shot meat(I had to throw away most of both shoulders and half the ribs on that Axis).

Of course, he's a real particular guy that doesn't hunt and can't really be told anything, so he might not even let me take the bow for fear of a deer being lost...

I don’t follow everything you are saying. Why does the feeder being less than 50 yards cause you to ruin meat? Wait till they look at you and shoot them in the white spot on the neck when using a gun. No meat lost. If your FIL lets you hunt with a bow then go for it. Make a good shot at 20 yards or less and go get your deer.

Like I said, if you don't shoot them in the head/neck, the concussion from the bullet causes a bunch of bloodshot meat. Never been much of an issue for me before, but I shot that Axis at 33 yards and only clipped one of the first ribs and had a ton of blood shot meat on both shoulders and ribs.

I would have shot her in the neck, but she was trotting through and wouldn't stop.

And I picked out several setups while I was there that would give me some nice 10-25 yard shots with the bow, so I'm hoping he gives me the green light.

My wife and her aunt have land north of st Francisville - hardwood then back toward the river " her place is called rose mound " is the hunting any good? Her cousin owns a small island in the river and leases it and says the duck hunting is good

I think it will be. He just put up a feeder and camera about a month ago and he had some decent bucks on camera. It seems to have 2 large travel corridors that come together on this place. Here's a couple of the bucks(I know a couple of them are the same buck).

I would think the bigger problem you would have with neighbors is taking a bunch of deer off of 15 Acres. You mentioned taking a buck and taking a”few” doe for the freezer as well as axis... that is a lot of deer for 15 Acres. Although it may be your right to do it I could see how that would tick off some of the neighbors.

I hunt a 17 acre piece of property, but only use about 5 acres of it for hunting. Make sure the shot is good, and you should be okay
