    My first hog

Last Saturday afternoon, I killed my first feral hog. I guesstimate her weight at 80-100 lbs., and I shot her at about 30 yds. range with my Savage 99 in .308 Winchester (150gr. Remington Core Lokt bullet). She was trotting, so I put the crosshairs on her nose and squeezed the trigger resulting in a high double lung hit (through and through - about level with her eye). DRT. As it was getting dark, and cold, and since we didn't have much cooler space, I opted to just take her hindquarters for meat. The 2nd photo shows the "before and after" taking off the hide, and the final photo shows the finished product - 7.5 lbs. of ground pork.

Now maybe River Rat and Banzai will quit giving me the business about just knocking hogs out with a gunshot

For a young hog, I was amazed out how thick the fat was on this sow (probably 0.5 inches thick). I think I'm going to cook the next one on the smoker.

    Regards,

    Dave

Congrats. I would have found some room and extra few minutes for those backstraps also.

      Way to go!
First thing I would have taken off would have been backstraps, then hams.

      My trigger finger is itching!
