Camo upgrade.what ya think?

Alright, I need to upgrade the camo. I’ve been using cheap academy camo and have been busted twice this year while now hunting. Once 20’ up and another 25’ up. Only two deer that have been in bow range. So very frustrating. Didn’t move either time. Saw them coming. They glanced around and when they glanced in my general direction they pegged me big time. When I was 25’ up I was in the top of an oak with a cedar that was growing next to it. All I can think is the camo must have a uv glare like crazy based off a pic on my game cam at night where my pants look silver and you can’t see the pattern at all.

So I’m thinking of first lite wool or possibly kuiu camo. I like the thought of wool. Wish they didn’t discontinue the ASAT pattern. Seems that would work best in a tree. Plus it doubles if I go to Colorado next year.

So what ya got? Thoughts. What seems to work pretty good? Because I’m over doing everything right only to get busted in the top of a tree at 25 yards....

I think your camo did not get you busted, it was somethings else. Lack of background, deer have seen you there before, they smelled you, any number of things are more important than what brand or pattern you wear. Many, many deer are killed each year by guys wearing flo orange that sit in trees as well as on the ground. If it was "UV glare", there's a product that's supposed to remove that.

Im not thinking its the camo. Before deer season, I watched a doe and fawn eat corn for an hour while I was waiting for the hogs to come in at night. Doe threw a glance at me and stared for a long while. One thing I do, and I don't know whether theres anything to this or not, is don't look them in the eyes. I shifted my eyes just past her, and in 10 seconds she was eating corn again. That was 12' up and in academy camo.

I agree with drycreek. I killed my buck this year with zero camo. 20' up in a tree and I had several does and a smaller buck walk by inside 20 yards wearing the same stupid looking outfit.

Brand new sets. Stands haven’t been there 2 days. When I was 25’ up, I had my back against the trunk with branches all around me. Never moved.

I don’t think it was the camo, but ASAT wears like iron and seems to blend into different backgrounds.

I'd say it's not the camo. My Grandpa killed more deer wearing a faded carhart jacket than I've harvested wearing camo. I don't think it makes as big a difference as we'd like to think. I could be wrong though.

Man Dapper I share your frustration! I've had almost identical experiences so I went out and bought an entire Scent Lok suit in the woodlands pattern. I thought this should be scent free and I should look just like the bark of the tree. I'm not even in a stand, I'm hanging from the tree. First time out I got busted by a doe 25 yards away, through some brush and I heard her coming for 30 mins.

So I'm only saying all this just to say, I don't know about all this camo stuff.

Seriously before you spend a bunch of money take a look at some of the other guys comments. There's a reason the deer busted you/me, we just have to figure that out.

Sitka has their whitetail line in Elevated, which is designed for treestand hunting. I own it and haven't had any issues being busted yet. It is also warmer than the FL or Kuiu since that stuff is more for active hunting.

Man, 20’ - 25’ up, down wind, plenty of back ground, no movement, only my eyes not covered.... what the hell else could it be? Had another guy wearing different camo and had the same thing happen. Except she only spent a few seconds looking at him and went back to eating.
