Interesting thing my brother saw today.....

He was on his way to do some work near Vance, and he sees a huge buck running along a low fence. By huge, he said well over 200 inches. It had to be from a breeder, because we just don't have bucks like that in that area under low fence. The interesting thing was that the deer looked emaciated. His best guess is that the breeder thought the deer had CWD, and didn't want to have his deer herd eliminated, so he turned it out. I hope to God that that isn't the case.

Thats a lot of conclusions to jump to. Very likely a giant and old wild deer few knew existed.

He said it would score in the 230's. You're more likely to see a sasquatch than that in Vance.

Why wouldn't the breeder just kill it?

Maybe he was afraid that the prions in the body fluids would contaminate his soil. I don't know, but the whole thing is bizarre.

If it is a breeder buck that escaped it can easily die of starvation. My neighbors had a couple get out several years and they were found dead later that year on neighboring properties. They don't know how to survive outside a controlled environment.

This is probably the case. They will stress out and end up dying. OP, does your brother know of any high fence operations anywhere in that area? IF that was a high fence escapee, he didnt go very far from the high fence.

I’d be knocking on some doors and seeing if I could hunt that property.

Lot of high fences around there, and what would it matter. Once that deer is on someone else's property, how are you going to catch it?

If there are two acres around there that aren't leased, I'd be surprised. The days of knocking on doors in Texas ended sometime around 1969.
